I'm the first vote as I got the Idea
What's on your mind?
"Ah, you know, that was just a theory. I don’t know that he’s an actual agent" -Vinnie Dakota, "We're Going the Zoo"
Hey every one.
The featured polls have been tallied up and the winners are now shown on the main page.
I have moved the featured polls up a tier on the forum's board so they will link to the main page. The episode and character polls were merged into one "Featured Article" poll.
Every one should know that we don't have to have the featured Article, Song Quote and Did You Know, we can add to, or remove from, or outright change them.
So I'm starting this thread to discuss what would you like to see as our main page featured voting boxes.
I'm going to leave last month's up for now. But once we have a sampling the quote poll will appear here.
Please reply with your suggestions for a featured quote, and be sure to include who said it and in what episode.
Ok, it appears that I have found some of the bugs in the featured voting section of the main page. The fixes will start to show up over the next few hours.
Please don't freak out over the items I put in the " ___ of the month" boxes, I deliberately chose themes from the least visited lists hoping to inspire participation and to avoid interfering with the current choices in featured voting forum.
I think we may have to move the voting forums up a tier (in other words, make each it's own topic) for them to link to the main page properly. We'll work on it and have it connecting properly by next month.
There is an overwhelming amount of external links within our wiki, more so than any of the wikis I visit.
A fair number of external links are to subjects the bare no real relevance to the page upon which they occur. Furthermore, many of those links are placed in the article rather than using the <ref></ref> with the link being placed at the bottom of the page in “References”.
We also have a ridiculous number of links to definitions.
Links appear differently than the rest of the text. It is well known that variations of color, font, size, case and so on, are generally annoying to the reader and should be used sparingly.
We must also bare in mind that we are trying to write at a sixth grade level and for persons 13 years of age and older. If a word is too complicated it should be supplanted with an easier word or perhaps a complete rephrasing of the sentence.
Also, these links clutter up the editing window and often make a simple edit an arduous task. I wish I could remember where it is but, there is an article on our wiki that is only three sentences long but nearly half of the words are linked to a definitions wiki. When opened in the editor, these three sentences expand into a page and a half of link path data.
So, I’m asking that all links be put at the bottom of the page and that all definitions be eliminated.
“Realizing they couldn’t get all the gear up the hill, they kludged a funicular to haul it with.”
Could be changed to; “Realizing they couldn’t get all the gear up the hill, they assembled a <ref>funicular</ref> from parts of the wrecked train to haul it with.”(then you would place a link to a funicular web site in “References”)
As always, I’d like to hear what others think.
A quick glance to the top of the page will reveal a new set of options to navigate by.
I made these changes based on what I found at several other wikis. I hope they are helpful. This is far from the final product, but we are on the way.
So, what would you like to see in the navigation menus?
Keep in mind that, "Explore" and "Forum" are fixed by the FANDOM software. (We can add special pages to "Explore".)
Also, there can only be four items in the Navigation Bar and there are limits to how many items can be in the pull downs.
Please cite examples of other wikis in your replies.
Hopefully, it won't take long for you to amass a rich pool of items to add up there.
I know this is a long post, but here are a few of my thoughts on the future of this wiki.
A recent post made by Djahuti in response to the sudden background/theme change made the current state of the wiki pretty clear. While there are definitely a number of dedicated people working on the articles themselves, the wiki itself is a mess by any wiki standards, and it's gone months without change.
On top of that, we're really missing a lot in terms of communication. For example, the recent theme change should have been voted on, or in the least, discussed by the community. Instead, it suddenly happened without any notice, and to be honest, I'm not even sure who the admins are here.
And last but not least, the second season of Milo Murphy's Law (Not to mention the Phineas and Ferb Crossover!) is fast on its way, bringing a lot of new and old fans. We should work as a dedicated community to improve the wiki as much as we can before then, and after, for the sake of our beloved show!
So I'm making this post in hopes of bringing us together and sorting this stuff out so that we can work towards a complete and active wiki. Please add any and all of your thoughts so we can sort it all out.
Finally, in honor of being a democratic space, here are a few of my opinions. (Please be sure to post your own!)
- I'd really appreciate it if somebody posted a list of the admins, active or inactive. And on that note, we should use the voting platform of the community to sort out the issues through promotion/demotion.
- We really need to work on the layout of the wiki. From the 'Characters' dropdown to the 'Administrators' tab leading to a blank page, it's a very frustrating place to navigate. And that's not to mention the complete lack of activity on the front page itself.
- We should change the theme/background back to the way it was. I really feel that the red of the new theme doesn't suit Milo Murphy's Law, personally. There's also the many issues with the background, not limited to the fact that it is a fanart, and not an official work.
If nothing else, I'd be willing to be a dedicated admin (or temporary/trial admin?). I've got experience in web design, advanced English, and programming, and while I've never been an admin to a Wiki before, I'd be willing to put as much time as I need into studying anything I need to know. I will always be open to any criticism and opinions, and voting/communication would be a top priority. (And of course, my life is already dedicated to MML- I've watched the show over more times then I can count, and I would be thrilled to watch it many more!)
Regardless, thank you so much for taking the time to read this post, and I hope we can use it as a start to making our wiki a more active, organized space.
I think the new color sceme and back ground make it difficult to read pages.
Which character(s) is your favorite of Milo Murphy's Law?
Unlimited watching. Good Luck :)
